Pedestrian Awareness

Powered industrial truck operators have two critical jobs to account for in addition to their daily tasks: keeping themselves safe and ensuring pedestrian safety in their work environments. After all, forklifts can weigh an average of 9,000 lbs – that’s 3-4 times the weight of a car! Controlling that much weight is a big responsibility. However, pedestrian safety can also be increased if non-operators take simple precautions when walking in areas where trucks are used.  Fox Valley Safety’s pedestrian awareness training will get your workers on the right path.

Pedestrian Awareness Training Includes:

  • Hazards of working around powered industrial trucks
  • Why accidents happen
  • Powered industrial truck operator responsibilities around pedestrians
  • Pedestrian responsibilities around powered industrial trucks
  • Safety zone area and strategies for crossing traffic or approaching the truck

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), nearly 20 percent of forklift accidents involve a pedestrian, and 36% of forklift-related deaths are pedestrians.
